Wickwoods Woodland Lodges 01

ECE Planning

In 2020, ECE Planning secured planning permission for eight eco-friendly retreat lodges within the grounds of Wickwoods Country Club, Hotel & Spa, located in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Two years later, we successfully delivered a revised scheme, gaining permission for a reduced number of lodges (five in total) and two new paddle tennis courts.

The updated proposals include single-storey, stilted timber lodges, each with private raised terraces and one fully accessible unit with ramped access, promoting inclusivity. The new paddle tennis courts will be housed within an extension to the existing tennis court building and include undercover spectator seating.

The application demonstrated that the refined layout and scale of the lodges, together with the addition of the courts, would enhance the woodland setting while preserving the ecological and visual qualities of the site. Through careful design and a robust woodland management plan, the proposals will deliver long-term environmental benefits.

The scheme reflects Wickwoods’ ethos by combining traditional materials with contemporary design, delivering a high-quality, sustainable leisure experience that sensitively complements its unique landscape setting.
