Culture built around people

We value open dialogue, shared purpose, and continual learning, creating an inclusive environment where creativity thrives and wellbeing is protected.

Community

Designing together. Supporting each other. Impacting place, people and practice locally and nationally.

At ECE, community isn’t just something we design for; it’s something we nurture from within. Our studios are collaborative, people-first environments where creativity is shared, curiosity is encouraged, and success is always a team effort. From early-morning seafront installations to charity challenges and local partnerships, we take pride in contributing to the places we live and work.

These moments reflect our culture: hands-on, collective and full of care. Whether it’s raising money, mentoring future talent or improving our environmental performance, our community spirit shapes who we are and how we design.

Equality, diversity & inclusion

ECE Group believes buildings serve everyone, so our workplace must too. We welcome talent from every background, track and publish diversity data and are committed to equal pay and progression.

An ECE Group EDI steering group sets actions focusing on recruitment, retention and progression, monitoring progress throughout the year. Employee working groups, accessible studios, and flexible career pathways ensure every voice is heard and every career can thrive.

Inside ECE Group, our Women in Construction Working Group meets quarterly, setting measurable goals to drive gender equity across recruitment, progression, and visibility.

Externally, we channel this energy into Women in Construction Sussex, an ECE-branded forum where we host events for the wider industry. Together, the internal group and the Sussex network build community, amplify voices, and inspire the next generation.

WiC highlights

Our ECE Group Culture Committee offers an inclusive approach to strengthening our equality, diversity and belonging. Six volunteers, open to all levels, meet bi-monthly and rotate annually.  Proposals are put forward with the aim to strength our company culture and with minutes reviewed by our Board of Directors, this ensures leadership listen in real time. Approved initiatives are co-chaired by committee members, giving colleagues ownership of delivery and embedding inclusive thinking across projects, policies, and daily practice.

Legacy & sustainability

Our approach to legacy and sustainability is rooted in long-term thinking, ensuring that the environments we shape today remain adaptable, resilient, and beneficial for generations to come. From reducing embodied carbon and improving energy performance to supporting biodiversity and designing for reuse, we aim to make sustainability tangible in every project.

We recognise that legacy is also cultural and social. That’s why our sustainable design strategies are paired with meaningful community engagement, inclusive design, and a deep understanding of place. In this way, our work contributes to a more regenerative built environment – where long-term value, not short-term gain, becomes the measure of success.

ESG at ECE Group

At ECE, ESG isn’t just policy, its core to our practice. We run our studios responsibly, sustainably, and with purpose, ensuring our people, communities and planet are considered in everything we do, every day.

ECE Impact, our community engagement and social value consultancy, reflects how we embed these same principles into the places we help shape. But ESG is how we live them every day, as a practice.

Environmental impact

We are reducing our environmental impact across every aspect of our business. This includes minimising energy use in our studios, reducing waste, increasing recycling, and making sustainable choices in our materials, suppliers, and travel.

Social responsibility

Each year, we support a local charity through fundraising and volunteering, and we encourage team-led initiatives that give back to the communities where we live and work. Internally, we prioritise a positive, inclusive studio, supporting wellbeing, fairness, and opportunity for all.

Governance

We are transparent, accountable, and collaborative in how we work. From financial responsibility to professional development, we ensure our practice is built on solid foundations, enabling us to deliver consistently, support our teams, and grow with integrity.

Wherever you are on your career journey, ECE Group has a route forward. Across our three companies, opportunities span concept design, technical delivery, planning consultancy, and business support.
