ECE Architecture

A contemporary new home for Barton Junior School, delivering uplifting learning environments, generous play, and a crafted brick-and-zinc identity that resonates with Dover’s context.

We replaced outdated Victorian buildings with a purpose-built school that elevates teaching and learning. Strategic placement unlocks diverse external play, while a distinctive multi-pitched roof and refined materials provide a confident, contextual identity.

Light-filled, flexible classrooms support modern pedagogy. Varied roof pitches enhance daylight and acoustics, referencing local rhythms. Brick grounds the school in its neighbourhood, while standing seam zinc delivers crisp detailing, durability, and a fresh civic presence.

We balanced performance with sensitivity to Dover’s historic setting and prized castle views. Context modelling refined massing and roof choreography. Durable, low-maintenance materials and composed façades ensured energy efficiency, buildability, and elegance.

Barton Junior School now unites uplifting learning with generous, well-considered play, wrapped in characterful, contextual architecture – creating lasting value for pupils, staff, and the community.
