ECE Architecture

Elevating Worthing’s seafront with the town’s first purpose-built hotel in over a century, whilst respecting its cherished Conservation Area heritage.

Our comprehensive approach combined planning expertise with technical delivery, navigating complex conservation requirements whilst maximising this prime seafront opportunity through innovative design and robust construction solutions.

Beach Hotel – night

Drawing inspiration from Worthing’s celebrated Art Deco heritage, our design embraces Modernist principles of functionality and light. Clean, minimalist aesthetics create a contemporary interpretation of the International Style, establishing a strong connection to the sea. This architectural approach honours the town’s distinctive coastal character whilst delivering a landmark building that feels both timeless and thoroughly contemporary.

Sustainability features, including photovoltaic panels, high-performance insulation, MVHR systems, and a striking green wall within the residential courtyard, demonstrate our commitment to regenerative design practices.

The project delivers 81 guest rooms and 48 residential apartments, transforming a constrained seafront site surrounded by public highways. Working closely with ECE Planning, we provided seamless coordination across RIBA Stages 1-6, from initial planning strategy through to technical delivery.

This integrated Group approach ensured complex conservation requirements were addressed from the outset, with our planning specialists securing essential consents whilst our technical team developed construction solutions that honoured the design vision.

Beach Hotel – balcony details

Ongoing dialogue with the Local Authority ensured our weather-tight, robust construction maintained the architectural quality envisioned at the planning stage, respecting the Conservation Area’s sensitive context. The exposed seafront location within a designated flood risk zone demanded innovative engineering solutions. We elevated the building on a protective plinth with semi-basement parking, safeguarding against coastal flooding whilst maintaining street-level accessibility. The cast-in-situ concrete frame required meticulous junction detailing to withstand harsh marine conditions.

Creating lasting value through exceptional design and technical excellence, this pioneering project establishes a new benchmark for Worthing’s architectural future whilst celebrating its distinctive coastal character.
