A refined roof line extension elevating a cherished family home in the South Downs, uniting elegant design with practical space-making for contemporary living, inside and out.
Perching Holt’s carefully resolved extension reimagines everyday living, balancing character and clarity. A new gable-ended roof line shapes a generous master suite and balcony, while optimising discreet storage, light, and long views.
At ground level, a bright family dining and living space connects seamlessly to a paved outdoor cooking and dining terrace, expanding the home’s social heart. Above, the extended roof introduces a crisply detailed gable, aligning with local vernacular and enhancing proportions. This roof move unlocks valuable eaves storage, improves headroom, and frames the master bedroom, delivering comfort, privacy, and a subtle architectural statement within the South Downs context.
Design decisions were guided by context and craft. The gable-end extension provides a simple, confident profile, integrating first-floor accommodation without overwhelming the original dwelling. Carefully positioned openings draw in daylight and outlook, while the roof geometry resolves junctions cleanly. The result is a calm, coherent elevation and a future-proofed plan that supports modern family life.
By extending the roof line with purpose, we delivered enduring value: refined architecture, better space, and effortless flow. A clear, elegant design that elevates daily living and respects its setting.
