A striking landmark inspired by Sussex’s iconic white cliffs, Tate Residences transforms the entrance of the Sussex County Cricket Club while delivering sustainable luxury apartments and vibrant commercial spaces.

Drawing references from Sussex’s natural landscape and local architectural heritage, Tate Residences features distinctive horizontal balcony lines echoing chalk striations, complemented by textured white brick and metallic ceramic tiles. This contemporary design creates a landmark that marries local tradition with modern living.

Tate Residences revolutionises the arrival experience at Sussex County Cricket Club. The development resolves long-standing pedestrian and vehicle conflicts through thoughtfully positioned segregated entrances on either side of the building.

A strategically located ticket office within the building envelope improves spectator flows and security arrangements on matchdays. Landscaping elements create green ribbons linking the cricket pitch with Eaton Road, while subtle cricket-inspired details – including door protection hoops styled as stumps – reinforce the sporting heritage of this special location.

Sustainability pulses through every aspect of Tate Residences, embodying our vision for a more responsible architectural future. The building breathes with its environment, capturing energy through solar panels, nurturing biodiversity on its green roofs, and maximising natural resources through thoughtful orientation.

Each apartment invites abundant natural light while clever heat recovery systems ensure energy once lost is now captured and reused. Beyond achieving BREEAM Excellent certification, the development stands as a testament to what’s possible when environmental ambition meets creative design, creating spaces that not only reduce our footprint on the planet but enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

The project team faced significant challenges, working on a site adjacent to a conservation area while maintaining the cricket club’s primary access throughout construction. The site’s constrained nature created logistical hurdles, particularly during the busy cricket season.

These were overcome through innovative solutions, including specifying a brick slip cladding system to speed installation and reduce disruption. The team also conducted a comprehensive tall building analysis to inform the massing, resulting in a stepped design that respects neighbouring properties while creating a distinctive entrance marker.

Part of a wider masterplan, Tate Residences delivers immediate improvements while generating crucial funding for the cricket club’s future development.
