ECE Architecture

Barn-inspired homes in Hassocks that blend rural tranquillity with contemporary craft. A central courtyard creates community, while a secluded farmhouse offers luxury, privacy, and enduring West Sussex character.

Mill Nursery reimagines rural living through a contemporary lens. Four single-family homes, shaped by agricultural heritage, pair clean lines with traditional materials. A central courtyard brings neighbours together, while considered siting preserves privacy, views, and a calm, connected way of life.

Mill Nursery – two houses courtyard

Set in the countryside of Hassocks, the development draws on barns and farmstead typologies to sit lightly in its landscape. Three homes frame a shared courtyard, creating a sociable heart, while the principal farmhouse is set back for quiet seclusion. Timber, brick, and metal roofing reference local traditions, balanced with refined details and generous glazing. The result is a modern rural ensemble that feels authentic, crafted, and rooted in place, with easy access to nearby amenities.

Mill Nursery – courtyard placement

Buildings are positioned to optimise sunlight and shelter, with entrances and thresholds choreographed for ease and welcome. Soft landscaping, native planting, and permeable surfaces create a calm microclimate, while private gardens and terraces edge the shared space to ensure quiet moments remain private.

Mill Nursery elevates rural living with a contemporary, agricultural sensibility. A sociable courtyard, a secluded farmhouse, and rigorously detailed barn forms create enduring value – pairing design quality with practical, real-world delivery in West Sussex.
