Passivhaus architecture & design
Our in-house Certified Passivhaus Designers bring together design expertise and technical knowledge to deliver buildings that meet the exacting standards of Passivhaus certification. As proud Members of the Passivhaus Trust, we are committed to advancing low-energy design across the industry.
From site appraisal to detailed design review, we guide our clients through every stage, creating spaces that are healthier, more comfortable, and ready for a net-zero future.
What we offer
A successful Passivhaus project begins long before design. We appraise your site against key Passivhaus requirements, analysing form factor and orientation to uncover its true potential, setting your project up for outstanding performance from day one.
Every building has its own relationship with the climate around it. Designing the building fabric around specific climate data ensures your project responds intelligently to its environment, reducing energy demand, enhancing comfort, and delivering performance that lasts.
Keeping spaces comfortable, without compromise. We carefully review overheating risks, refining glazing ratios, specifications, and external shading to strike the perfect balance, ensuring your building performs beautifully all year round, for the people who matter most.
No detail is too small. Through detailed design review, we identify potential thermal bridges and assess moisture risk, safeguarding your building’s long-term integrity, the comfort of its occupants, and the value of your investment.
The right Passivhaus certifier can make all the difference. We provide clear advice on the appointment of an independent Passivhaus certifier, giving you the confidence to make the right choice for your project and your sustainability ambitions.
The road to Passivhaus certification
Achieving Passivhaus certification is a rigorous process, but it doesn’t have to be a complicated one. With the right expertise on your team from the outset, it is a clear, structured journey with verified performance at every stage.
Unlike standard building regulations compliance, Passivhaus certification requires evidence gathered throughout design and construction, not just at completion. That means decisions made early have a significant impact on outcomes later. Our certified Passivhaus designers work with you from feasibility through to handover, ensuring the standard is embedded in the project from day one.
Below, we’ve set out what that process looks like in practice, and outlined the RIBA Stages where we can help.
Stage 1/2
Feasibility study
In these first stages, we can help with the assessment of orientation, shading, form factor, glazing ratios, and options analysis.
Stage 3
Design optimisation
During Stage 3, we optimise the design, establish an airtightness strategy, appoint the Passivhaus certifier, and perform interim reviews.
Stage 4
Technical review
The technical review can include full PHPP design verification, refining specifications, product selection & airtightness strategy, thermal bridge analysis, ventilation system design, and a design review by the certifier.
Stage 5
On-site assistance
We are with you on-site, supporting with on-site queries, evidence for certification, and certifier construction reviews.
Stage 6
Review and final certification
During this stage, the Passivhaus evidence will be submitted to the Passivhaus Institute for assessment and final Passivhaus certification.
Stage 7
Post-occupancy evaluation
As part of our services, we can assist with the post-occupancy evaluation, if required, to assess the building’s in-use performance.
