ECE Architecture
Transforming architectural vision into built reality, our technical team delivered Wilkinson Eyre’s ambitious design for this postgraduate hub in Central London.
As Executive Architect for the Queen Mary Graduate Centre, our expertise across RIBA Stages 4-6 ensured that exceptional design intentions were faithfully realised. Our technical team maintained design integrity while enhancing buildability, working within the constraints of a challenging urban site to deliver a landmark educational facility.
The Graduate Centre stands as a testament to architectural ambition made possible through technical mastery. The striking facility provides Queen Mary University with a 200-seat lecture theatre, dedicated study spaces, seminar rooms, academic offices, and student services. The design features a dramatic floating glass box housing reading and common rooms on the top floor, alongside a roof terrace overlooking a thoughtfully landscaped courtyard – all elements requiring precise technical resolution.
Overcoming complex challenges was central to our contribution. The specified brick featured non-standard dimensions, requiring innovative solutions to maintain design intent. Our team developed a custom brick slip system for all brick soffits, creating seamless transitions between vertical and horizontal planes. The signature floating glass box demanded close collaboration with façade engineers to achieve both the desired visual transparency and essential thermal performance within practical construction parameters.
The Queen Mary Graduate Centre showcases how technical excellence can bring architectural vision to life. Our ability to bridge conceptual design and practical delivery ensured that this ambitious project was realised to the highest standards, creating an inspiring space where future generations of students can thrive.
