At ECE Architecture, ESG is not something we treat as a standalone statement; it is part of how we work, how we engage, and how we show up in the communities around us.
Our installation for Worthing Fringe Festival 2026, A piECE of our Mind, reflects that approach. The three miniature mirrored beach huts are playful, creative and deliberately rooted in place; designed to celebrate Worthing, spark curiosity, and invite people to see the town through a different lens. As they move across locations throughout June, they encourage residents and visitors alike to explore, pause, connect and take pride in their surroundings.
This project brings together several strands of what matters to us as a practice:
Community impact
We believe design should do more than occupy space; it should create conversation, connection and a genuine sense of belonging.
Through our work, we aim to contribute positively to the places we are part of, and Worthing is no exception.
Alongside the beach huts, our wider outreach as an agency includes:
- talks and knowledge-sharing events
- charity cricket matches and community fundraising
- team-led challenges supporting local causes, including a recent fundraiser where we competed to raise money through a step challenge
These activities are all part of the same mindset: using our energy, creativity and profile to support people, places and local causes.
Environmental responsibility
For this installation, we have focused on creating impact through a relatively light-touch intervention. The huts were made using locally sourced materials, including from Covers Timber & Builders Merchants in Bognor Regis, helping to support local supply chains while keeping the project closely connected to the region.
The design is intentionally compact, reusable and movable, allowing the structures to appear in multiple locations across the festival rather than existing as a single static installation. At the end of June, the huts will be auctioned for charity, extending their value beyond the festival itself.
Innovation through design
Innovation for us is not only about new buildings or new technologies; it is also about finding imaginative ways to connect people with place.
The mirrored beach huts turn Worthing itself into part of the artwork: the sea, sky, streetscape and everyday life all become part of the installation.
That idea has clearly struck a chord. The project is already generating strong public interest under the hashtag #ReflectionsofWorthing, gaining traction across social media, local radio and regional press, including coverage on the BBC News website. For us, that response is exciting not simply because it gives the project visibility, but because it shows the power of creative, accessible design to resonate with people quickly and meaningfully.
A shared reflection of Worthing
Ultimately, A piECE of our Mind is about more than a sculpture. It is about local identity, public engagement and the role design can play in bringing people together. It reflects our belief that creative projects can be both joyful and purposeful, supporting culture, community and ESG ambitions at the same time.
We are proud to be part of Worthing Fringe Festival 2026 and proud to contribute something that feels distinctly local, widely shared and genuinely connected to the town.
