ECE Planning

ECE Planning secured planning permission for the Crawley Station Gateway scheme on behalf of Crawley Borough Council. The project forms a critical component of the Crawley Growth Programme, funded in part by the Towns Fund, and delivers significant public realm, transport, and accessibility improvements within Crawley town centre.

The scheme involved improvements across Station Way, Friary Way, Haslett Avenue West, and The Martlets. Key elements included the reconfiguration of the highway network, a redesigned bus station layout to improve efficiency, enhanced pedestrian and cycle connections, a new 20mph safety zone, and high-quality landscaping to uplift the public realm.

ECE Planning led the planning application and engagement with the local authority throughout. The scheme included close collaboration with Project Centre, Metrobus, West Sussex County Council and environmental specialists. A detailed Planning, Design and Access Statement and a full suite of technical reports were prepared to address transport, heritage, biodiversity, water neutrality, drainage, and arboricultural matters.

The scheme was unanimously approved by the Planning Committee in early 2025, with Councillors recognising its transformative benefits for sustainable travel, public safety, and urban vitality.
